Why Use Sandwich Boards To Improve Traffic

sandwich boards

Sandwich boards are those signs that resemble two pieces of bread in a sandwich. The feet can lightly be dug into the ground or easily placed on any firm surface. Boards can be constructed of various materials. Sometimes termed as “A” boards, these signs have played a vital role in commerce since the early days. When used effectively, these advertising tools can improve your lead generation and conversion rates. Read below to find out how.

They project a simpler time

Many people associate sandwich boards with a more simpler and less rushed time of life. A well-designed sign is relaxing and informative to read. It brings character to the neighborhood. People will enjoy stopping and reflecting on the sign’s message. Getting back to basics is becoming more popular by the day. There is no better way to bring on a homespun simplicity theme than by using a sandwich board as part of a firm’s marketing strategy.

They highlight creativity

Some sandwich boards, especially those constructed of a chalkboard, can show potential customers the creativity level of the business. Chalkboards provide a drawing easel for different chalk colors, designs, and artistry that cannot be found on electronic advertising tools. Sandwich boards placed outside of restaurants, for instance, can list featured menu items with drawings that stimulate interest. Creativity always brings in customers.

They are portable

Sandwich boards can easily be moved to fit the firm’s needs. Instead of being affixed to one site, the board can be taken to trade shows, meetings, conferences, presentations or other appropriate events. They can be placed in high foot and vehicle traffic areas. Sandwich boards are an innovative quick fix that can conveniently bring in new traffic.

They offer versatility

Sandwich boards come in a variety of styles and materials. Some can be constructed with a water base that makes tipping over nearly impossible. These fit in perfectly for use in high wind areas. Boards can be constructed of wood, chalk, aluminum, or plastic. Choosing an antiquated style will strike a nerve with those wanting a more classic and elegant tone of advertising. These signs are ideal for antique shops, consignment shops, tea parlors and other similar venues. Some firms may prefer a dry erase board that can easily be erased and reused. Still other firms may prefer the “lift up and drop in” feature that some boards offer. It all depends upon finding the board that meets the company’s needs and personality.

They are budget friendly

Sandwich boards offer something for all business budgets. These marketing tools come in different sizes, materials, colors, and prices. Businesses are looking to improve exposure while cutting costs. Sandwich boards are cost-efficient tools that enhance any marketing strategy.

They enhance marketing

Any successful business realizes the importance of having a well-rounded marketing program consisting of both permanent and temporary signs. A sandwich board can be used as a temporary sign that can easily be moved at the end of the event or day. The board can also be used as a supplement to permanent signs. The more ways a business finds to use a sandwich board, the greater its value in the firm’s marketing program.

Sandwich boards provide an ideal way to improve traffic to any firm. Deciding upon which sandwich board works well for your business can be confusing, however. Consulting with a trained sign professional will be your best bet.

Street Signs or Art

street signs

From a young age, the image of traditional street signs is tied to a reaction in developing brains – even children that aren’t able to read yet can tell that a red octagon means “stop” and a green traffic light means “go.” While this makes for excellent safety habits in these same young children, age and repetition can cause the true impact of these signs to fade into the background for adults. Cities are stepping up with a unique solution, responding to the gradual muting of these messages by handing over street signs to artists for inspired, unexpected makeovers.

Honk Honk Haikus
One of the early adopters of the artist-as-urban-planner, New York made headlines last year with an unusual series of brightly-colored traffic signs that emphasized concepts like bike lane etiquette and the importance of crosswalks. Using a palette of sorbet neons and smart, witty haikus about traffic just below, each of artist John Morse’s creations helps deliver a message to some of the most harried pedestrians and drivers in the nation. While these tongue-in-cheek takes might never entirely replace their more commonplace black and yellow brethren in New York City, they do provide an excellent reminder that tends to stay with the viewer.

Surprise Poetry
Across the country, an LA artist named Rebecca Lowry is posting poetry for poetry’s sake. Using colors and fonts more suited to the stern regulations and warnings found on street signs, Lowry instead crafts sublime little poems that catch their readers off guard. One such sign eloquently requests company for a lonely autumn evening, looking at a glance like any other informative street sign. These interesting installments, found throughout West Hollywood, are a reminder to stop and consider what is being viewed, an encouragement to digest as much as consume the words on the street signs we follow each day.

Guerrilla Signage
While some street sign transformations are sanctioned by local officials, others are done on the sly by creative spirits that some call artists and others call vandals. These alterations can be as drastic as installing a new sign made to resemble an official one, or as simple as the addition of a few vinyl stickers to add a funny twist to a familiar icon. A group of artists calling themselves TrustoCorp has secretly installed signs in a handful of city locales, admonishing passerby to adhere to the “Obesity Zone” they’re passing through, or informing them that there is “No Snitching Allowed” in the immediate vicinity. These signs use red, white, black, and yellow schemes to blend in as official-looking until they’re examined more closely. Typically, these signs are removed fairly quickly after they’re discovered, making them an interesting temporary art show in the interim.

As metropolitan areas grow more visually cluttered with statements and rules printed on signs, an artistic twist – sanctioned or not – can be a real breath of fresh air. The antidote to some distraction may be as simple as a larger sign or brighter paint, but a complete overhaul at the hands of an artist can turn a simple street sign into something that makes a truly lasting impact on everyone.

No Bullying School Zone Signs

No Bullying School Zone Signs

According to recent studies, a whopping 71% of school-going children report that bullying is a problem at their school. Almost 60% having actually witnessed some kind of bullying happening in front of them with a further 75% of all school-related shootings documented as being a result of bullying at school. These numbers are beyond frightening, and in recent years, school violence, shootings and hectic bullying behavior are issues that are making front page news far too often.

There are five key issues involved in tackling the bullying problem:

1. Where is the violence coming from?

Schools are taking steps to protect students and to gain control of bullying in schools, which as it has come to light, is a much more serious problem than anybody ever realized. School violence is on the rise, and it is a catastrophic combination of socio-economic and harassment issues stemming from both home and school that are contributing factors to a situation that has the potential to spiral out of control.

2. Protecting our kids

Schools have started implementing all sorts of programs across the US, in an effort to bring this horrendous situation under control and to bring down the number from almost 300,000 bullying victims a year to a flat zero. Signs strongly forbidding bullying are becoming a regular sight at schools, libraries, parks, gyms, computer classes, rec rooms and playgrounds. It’s a huge bid to highlight the effects of bullying, helping kids identify bullying behavior and opening up, owning up and reporting it.

3. Learning how to cope

The more awareness there is, the more education there is, the more that schools, parents and kids talk about and address the issues, the quicker change will come about, and the quicker that shocking number will fall. Bullying was never such a visible subject as it is these days, and schools are finally coming to the party, providing resources, support and education to kids of all ages in an attempt to clean up the classrooms and the playgrounds so that they don’t turn into war zones.

4. Where change needs to happen

Instead of kids skipping class and staying home, just to avoid confrontation and violence at school, there needs to be a procedure in place so that kids can feel safe by reporting the issues at hand. Kids who bully need serious support, help, and rehabilitation to ensure that they don’t evolve from the aggressive playground bully into a violent criminal offender as an adult; just as much as the victims of bullies need support, counseling and rehabilitation themselves. Families need to be brought in, communities need to come together, and with the right amount of control, pressure from the right people and support from the authorities, bullies will lose their power forever.

5. The No Bully Zone

With no bully and bully free school zone signs being placed in visible areas where kids and teens spend the majority of their time, they will have an ever present and constant reminder of the serious implications of bullying. This and other interventions are being put into place as part of a movement to bring the humiliation, pain and suffering to an end before it gets any worse.

No Smoking Signs Are On Fire

no smoking signs

Due to the public demand and many new laws enforcing the rights of non-smokers, no smoking signs are on fire. Here are some of the ways the war on tobacco is being waged:

1. They can be decals.

Establishments that are totally non-smoking can inform the public about this by using decals. Decals can be put on a variety of windows including storefronts, restaurants, hospitals and medical care facilities, retirement communities, retail establishments, cars and vehicles, and businesses of all types. Decals can be put on restaurant menus to emphasize the importance the venue places on customer health.

2. They can designate particular areas.

Some establishments have designated smoking areas, like restaurants. When this happens, nonsmoking signs can be used to teach others which parts of the establishment are available for smoking and which are not. Signs can be placed on table tops, counter tops, and near entrances.

3. They must meet zoning laws.

As with any public sign, non-smoking signs must meet local zoning ordinance laws. This means they must be placed in certain locations, a certain number of feet away from other items, be of specific sizes and/or contain specific wording and material. Check with zoning laws to be sure what applies.

4. They can be door or wall hangers.

Door hangers provide a convenient way to notify others of particular rooms being nonsmoking and can come in handy in establishments like hotels, hospitality venues and private meeting rooms. Wall hangers, or signs, can be placed in noticeable areas like bathrooms, lobbies and other high-traffic spots.

5. They can be used for medical purposes.

Federal law prohibits smoking in any medical facility. Non-smoking signs placed in both the interior and exterior surroundings will keep everyone informed of this. Many individual medical conditions require nonsmoking areas to be in place. This applies for respiratory machines that require oxygen dispensing and usage. Hospitals may have non-smoking signs to designate oxygen storage areas. Many smokers may want to smoke and plead ignorance about not knowing smoking is prohibited. Non-smoking signs can serve as a teaching tool and aggressive way to present the anti-smoking voice, or, they can be a gentle reminder about the importance of not smoking. Some signs can thank individuals for not smoking and for being considerate of others.

Non-smoking signs provide good public safety by lowering risks due to second-hand smoke, notifying of dangers associated with lung damage, and showing that smoking is not acceptable in many medical institutions. Signs usually use few words, provide information in an easy-to-understand, and pleasant, yet forceful manner making them universally informative. Signs play an important role in operating a healthy, safe and secure healthcare facility of any kind.

6. Non-smoking signs can be customized.

With so many uses and facilities that can use nonsmoking signs, it is important to find a vendor that makes customized signs. Signs can be designed to fit in with a room or interior décor, match the scheme already in place, be made of specified materials, and come in a variety of shapes to meet the buyer’s needs. Shapes include rectangular, square, circles, triangles or sculpted versions. Signs can be reproduced onto specialized backing to meet client preferences.

Customized signs range in price, depending upon the extent of customization needed and materials used. Check with many vendors to find the highest quality product for the best price.

Finding, and using, the correct nonsmoking sign can go far toward protecting public safety and everyone’s health.

Effective Communication With Road Signs

safety sign communication

1. They can improve traffic flow.

Road signs can improve all types of traffic flow. Traffic crossing signs inform passengers which direction to walk, which reduces the likelihood of jaywalking and other illegal activities. Crosswalks can be designated with safety signs, so they inform pedestrians about upcoming areas to cross streets. Pedestrian crosswalk signs placed near the walkway improve traffic flow and safety levels. These signs also let drivers know about areas where pedestrians have the right-of-way.

Safety signs can come in handy in school areas. School areas can be a tricky place for traffic involving pedestrians, students, and motorists to all co-exist safely. Signs can point out street crossings, upcoming speed limits, school zones and school hours. This information makes the entire area a safer place for all coming in contact with it.

Signs can effectively communicate how to properly navigate intersections. Intersections are the location for the highest level of fatalities due to the complexity of traffic pattern options available. Without safety signs, a haphazard traffic flow would exist at all levels. This statistic can be reduced by having traffic lights placed in noticeable heights at appropriate spots. Red stop signs placed at each intersection corner make pedestrian and driver movement safer. Caution signs can inform drivers of upcoming round-abouts, making the streets safer to navigate. Caution signs can also inform drivers and pedestrians of upcoming street worker areas, protecting the workers and affected parties from injury and accidents. A beeping alarm placed at intersections can be used to notify visually-impaired people of available street crossing times. This protects against injury.

Safety signs can also improve traffic flow involving bicyclists. Placing a bicyclist crossing sign that contains a bicycle symbol notifies everyone to be aware. Heightened awareness improves safety. These signs inform drivers to be aware of bicyclists, and also inform bicyclists, and can help parties stay safe by designating areas specified only for bicyclist use.

Safe and walkable communities need to consider the elderly and mobility impaired. Put up signs that signify pedestrian walking, with traffic lights nearby so motorists can stop when needed. Designate the crosswalk on the street surface, so walkers know exactly where to cross. A yellow sign with “pedestrian crossway” will notify everyone of possible pedestrians.

2. They can protect during night.

Nighttime can be a particularly challenging time to navigate around. Using reflective lights that stand out is one way to effectively communicate and keep everyone safer.

Using bright fluorescent signs, whether digital or standard, to notify drivers of work and/or construction zones is another way to keep everyone safer.

3. It can help the mobility impaired.

Safety signs can effective communicate areas specified for the mobility impaired. These signs can be either electronic, like flashing traffic lights, or standard street signs. Motorists are aware that there may be slow walkers in the area and to give way, if needed. This reduces the risks of injury for the mobility impaired by allowing them to walk at a comfortable pace that their level of health permits without worrying about being hit by a car. It also protects the driver by, hopefully, putting them on notice about the special area.

Safety signs come in all shapes, types and forms. Using them judiciously requires zoning law approval, proper placement and strong viewability.
